Welcome to The Eardrum, the bit
where you give your Eyeballs a rest and check out some of the
music and videos that we’ve been praising, slating and
just plain old ignoring.

Fall Out Boy - Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down
Hotly tipped American rockers have sold out their tour
over here quick time.
Check
out the video to their new single.
The Strokes 'Juicebox'
The laconic NY group return with the first release
from their forthcoming third LP. This time out they've ditched
the twee electro stuff in favour of some hard rocking bass music.
A bit Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
if you will. Check out the video here.

Babyshambles 'Albion'
The latest single from Babyshambles 'Down
in Albion' album is Pete Doherty's
vision of utopian Britain, so utopian it doesn't feature a baby-faced
junkie with an overriding need to be worshipped and a pathetic inability
to incorporate the elegant part to his elegantly wasted image. Check
out the video here.

Akira the Don 'Clones'
You won't find a bad word to be said about Mr the Don in the music
press - after all he is one of them. But to be fair it's also because
he's bloody good. This is his most commercial track to date and
as such glosses over his ferociously angry raps in favour of a bombastic
80's pop riff. Check out the video here.

Sigur Rós 'Hoppípolla'
It's our Single of the Week so that
should say it all, but if you need more, this is the kind of music
they'd play in heaven were it to exist in a physical form and not
just as a behaviour modification concept.

Coldcut 'Everything Is Under
Control'
The men behind Ninja Tune, Yazz & the
Plastic Population and other early pop forays into electronic
music are back, and this time they are angry. The man is trying
to control everything and to prove their point they get howling
Jon Spencer and smooth
Mike Ladd to attest to the fact. Rocking. Watch the video

The White Stripes 'The Denial Twist'
The latest single from their Get
Behind Me Satan album sees Michel Gondry
back in the director's chair for the video. He was behind the camera
for the superb Fell In Love With a Girl
video featuring Jack and Meg
in Lego form and he is on similarly inventive form with this one.
Check it out here.
The Decemberists '16 Military Wives'
Cracking new single from this American band with a kooky
sense of humour and a brash way with sound. With sing-a-long la
la chorus and a bold brass section hanging on an infectious melody,
it's like They Might Be Giant never
became crap. Check out the video here.
Duels 'Pressure on You'
Oh the perils of modern life eh, it can be tough. You might think
that having recently signed to Nude Records
might ease the pain for Duels but listen to their new single and
you can hear the building trauma. All in all an intensely fine song
- watch the video here.

Louie 'Trees'
Throbbing isn't a word I like to use too often but when it comes
to this track it's the only one that'll do. The debut single from
this six-piece outfit is a breakneck piece of shouty punk that will
either give you a headache or dirty urges. Check out the video here.

Celebration 'War'
Last week TV on the Radio were forced
to cancel their Scala gig due to the
death of the lead singer's father. The show went on though, with
a surprise appearance from The Breeders,
though it was Celebration that stole the show. Hearing 'War', taken
from their debut album due out in January, it's not hard to figure
out why the New York group are so highly rated. Check out the video
here.
Envelopes 'Sister in Love'
It's our Single of the Week
and when you hear this little gem of a pop song, you'll know why.
Four Swedes team up with one honey-voiced French lady to produce
a heavenly mix of Stereolab and The
Concretes. Check out the video here:

Blak Twang 'Travellin'
Some catchy hook-laden hip-hop combined with tales of travels from
one of the UK's top rappers. 'Travellin' has the kind of polish
not usually associated with UK hip-hop yet still isn't too far away
from his 'So Rotten' days. Check out
the video here:

should ever be, not counting Girls Aloud.

The Prodigy 'Voodoo People
(Pendulum remix)'
It looks like one last hurrah for Liam Howlett's
raving crew. The release of 'Their Law',
a collection of their singles over the past 15 years, seems like
the last we'll see of The Prodigy after the poor reception afforded
their previous album,
'Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned'. Still as signing off
goes, this smack-around-the-head remix of the classic 'Voodoo People'
should suffice. Check out the video
here.
The Research 'The Way You Used to Smile'
Once more we have the pleasure of bringing you the latest

that ends because the band got in the way. You see what they go

Test Icicles 'Circle Square Triangle'
I know we said they were awful when we saw them live at Fabric

ferocious punk, techno beats and a damn fine chorus. Check out the

Johnathan Rice 'So Sweet'
American singer-songwriter who has earned plaudits for his debut
album 'Trouble is Real', but more intriguingly
plays the role of Roy Orbison in the
forthcoming Johnny Cash biopic 'Walk
the Line', which stars Joaquin Phoenix
and Reece Witherspoon. 'So Sweet' is
the latest single to be taken from his album and we've got the video
here.
Infadels 'Jagger 67'
Infadels are a bunch of likely lads from London town who've
been setting venues alight around the capital, though not literally
of course. They've spent the last couple of months in the studio
working on their debut album, and 'Jagger 67' is the first taste
of their slick and shouty funk sound. Check out the video here:

If there's a more fun band in the world, Eyeballkid
has certainly not been told about it. 'Do Your Thing' sees the Jaxx
continue to flog singles from old albums, so we're assuming they've
got some contract fulfilling to do. That won't stop us enjoying
this shaking little number, and we've got the video to boot.

The Subways 'With You'
Ok, so we're constantly changing our mind regarding The Subways,

catchy is good, like fun and easy to remember, sometimes catchy
is bad, like ebola. 'With You' is good so check out the video here.

about the absence of leadership. And they are releasing it free

Franz Ferdinand 'Do You Want To'

The White Stripes 'My Doorbell'
New single from the two-toned duo's 'Get

Sons And Daughters 'Taste The Last Girl'

Babyshambles 'Fuck Forever'
It looks like the tiresome soap opera that affected The
Libertines is set to continue with Babyshambles. Pete
Doherty has recently quit the band saying that Kate
Moss told him he's too good for them, but has since rejoined.
Yawn. The current straw giving the camel backache was the remixed
version of this song, which Doherty hated but the record company
insisted on. Check out the video here.
