We Love . . . Homelands 2005

WHAT?
The traditional kick-start to the festival season We Love. . .Homelands
continues to redefine the notion of what a one-day dance festival
is about. Time was when the likes of Homelands and Creamfields
were 24 hour celebrations of superstar DJs and hedonistic lifestyles,
but faced with dance music’s decline, Homelands have opened
up all boundaries. Last year’s event saw the inclusion of psychedelic
rockers The Music and pop sensations
Scissor Sisters on the live stage and
an exclusively hip-hop arena. This time out the transition from a
giant rave to an unmissable day of music is complete with the massive
coup of genre-bending Beck confirmed
as headline act on the live stage, along with The
Streets, Roots Manuva and the much-touted The
Bravery.
In addition there’s seven more arenas
featuring a wide variety of DJs and live acts, including a drum’n’bass
tent, a hip-hop arena and a second outdoor stage. Besides all the
usual food and drink facilities, there’s plenty of market
stalls, a reverse bungee machine and a fun-fair. There’s no
camping onsite so you’re there all night. Warm clothes are
a good option for the wee hours, though there’s usually some
enterprising folk selling blankets at £5 a pop.
WHERE?
The Bowl in Matterley Estate, near Winchester, Hampshire.
WHEN?
Sat 28 May 2004 from 1pm – 6am.
WHO?
Beck,
The Streets, Roots Manuva, The Bravery and Mylo
all play the live stage, while elsewhere you can get the eighties
revival spirit with The Human League
and the Movement drum’n’bass
tent will feature a number of live performances from the likes of
Roni Size, Rebel MC and Photek.
On the DJ front as you might expect it’s a who’s who
of the top tune spinners in the world, including
2 Many DJs, Ritchie Hawtin, Grandmaster Flash, Jazzy Jeff, Dimitri
from Paris, Felix da Housecat and Groove
Armada. Plus there’s loads more acts to be announced
including a special guest live act in the hip-hop room. Keep an
eye on Eyeballkid
