Mylo @ Neighbourhood, London 15 Jul 2005
It
was the night after the morning before and defiance was in the air.
Whomever callously bombed London’s commuters on Thu 14 Jul
2005 may not want to change our way of life but there was an undercurrent
of emotion suggesting that, just in case they do, let’s show
them they won’t. Decadence is part of our Western ways; let’s
get decadent.
Ok so Neighbourhood is far too well run to be truly
debauched but getting to the West London club early – 10pm
– and finding it close to full was a good start. Due to its
residential location Neighbourhood is an early closer at 2am but
that just means the party is more intense. It’s a small but
nicely laid-out club, with plenty of seating areas, DJ at the same
height as the clubbers and, what every good club needs, a massive
balcony surrounding the dance floor.
A
nice mix of different styles of house from the support DJs warmed
the crowd up before the main act Mylo took to the decks. As expected
there was a definite electro twist to the tunes but he often deviated
in techno, funk, hip-hop and downbeat. There was just enough cheese
with ‘Video Killed the Radio Star’, though Van Halen’s
‘Jump’ was perhaps a leap too far. By the end the crowd
ecstatically called for his return and only a bizarre hoe-down reel
could clear the dance floor.
